You can receive a flu shot in our office on a walk-in basis between 7:30 AM and 4:00 PM Monday thru Friday, starting Monday October 3rd. You can also receive one if you have a routine office appointment with one of the physicians or the nurse practitioner. We will give the vaccine only to patients of Colorado Springs Internal Medicine.
We will have available the quadrivalent vaccine (covers four strains) for all adults, and the high dose vaccine (trivalent, covers three strains) which is approved for people age 65 and older.
If you have avoided flu vaccine because of egg allergy, there is now a vaccine made without eggs involved in the process. We will stock that vaccine as well.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends influenza vaccine for all people six months of age and older. Prior concerns that immunity from flu vaccine given early in the fall would wear off in midwinter before flu season is over have been shown to be groundless. Thus, vaccination can start in late summer.
You cannot get sick with a respiratory illness from the flu vaccine. If you or a friend received the flu vaccine then became ill with a respiratory illness over the subsequent days or weeks, you did not get that from the vaccine but caught a viral illness from another person at school, work, the grocery store, church, etc.
